The luxury-priced 1997 Aurus emerges from old vines planted at 1,200-1,500 foot elevations. Made from 85% Tempranillo (60-years old) and 15% Graciano, and low yields of 1.5 tons of fruit per acre, it is bottled unfiltered after undergoing malolactic fermentation as well as aging in new French oak. From a difficult vintage, the dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 Aurus offers an elegant, classy bouquet of red and black fruits, minerals, and smoke. Medium-bodied and deep for a 1997, with moderate tannin, and sweet, earthy black fruits, it will be at its prime between 2002-2012. There are 125 cases imported to America. There is little value to be found from Allende, but the quality of the wine is impressive.Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel.
