Now reaching full maturity, the 1983 Pavie has an attractive bouquet of rich raspberry and plummy fruit intermingled with the scents of new oak and herbs. The color is still medium dark ruby, but some amber has crept in at the edge. On the palate, the wine is crammed with rich, opulent, expansive, red fruit flavors, but has enough acidity and tannin to give it grip and focus. This is a surprisingly drinkable, exuberantly styled Pavie that should continue to evolve for at least another 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 3/91.
