The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques has a pure bouquet with a mixture of blackberry, briary, redcurrant and crushed strawberry scents underneath subtle slate-like aromas and sea cave notes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, linear and taut. It needs a little more flesh toward the finish to develop, but I admire the tension and terroir expression of this Lavaux Saint-Jacques. I suspect it my have more to offer once in bottle and it will eventually land toward the top of my banded score.
