Tasted at the Denis Mortet Chambertin vertical, the 1997 Chambertin Grand Cru has a powerful but rather monolithic bouquet. There are touches of cassis and blueberry here, attractive in a facile way, but frankly it does not even entertain the notion of articulating "Chambertin." The palate is sweet on the entry, quite backward and burly, rather "pushed" with a finish that feels slightly over-extracted. There is a touch of warmth at the back of the throat that does not leave you hankering for another sip. Tasted January 2016.
