Tasted at the Denis Mortet Chambertin vertical, the 2003 Chambertin Grand Cru had a predictably opulent, heady nose that seemed indifferent to expressing Pinot Noir. There is a plenty of crème de cassis here, turning more towards menthol with time. The palate has a sweet entry, rounded in texture, smudged with low acidity and a monotone finish. The shortcomings of this wines are all too apparent when contrasted with far superior vintages. Tasted January 2016.
