The 2006 La Corte is a single-vineyard Sangiovese. It shows the darker side of the grape in its black fruit and imposing, powerful personality. The tannins bruise the palate from start to finish in this intense, full throttle wine. Ultimately, I find a little less finesse here than in some of the estate’s other wines. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.
Castello di Querceto is a fascinating property. The estate produces a number of single-vineyard wines. At their best, the wines can be fabulous, but the estate’s Achilles heel is consistency. Frankly, in top vintages such as 2006 and 2007 all of the wines should be of a certain level.
