The 2005 La Corte (Sangiovese) is one of the finest of the estate’s single-vineyard selections from the 2005 harvest. A gorgeous bouquet of crushed flowers, violets, blackberries and grilled herbs leads to layers of dark fruit that open up beautifully in the glass. Rich and sumptuous to the finish, La Corte reveals gorgeous length on the palate and fabulous overall balance. La Corte can be enjoyed today for its primary fruit or cellared for at least another decade. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. Proprietor Alessandro Francois makes a wide range of wines, but the stars are his single-vineyard bottlings. The 2005 La Corte (100% Sangiovese) is weighed down by old spice and evolved tones of leather and licorice. The wine is soft and plush but it also shows a simple approach overall. The fruit has lost some of its energy and zest. If you have a bottle of this wine, don't wait too much longer. The tannins reveal fine texture and wrap smoothly over the palate.
