We tasted two bottles of this iconic vintage because the first sample was unfortunately corked. The Castello di Querceto 1985 La Corte marks the year that proprietor Alessandro Fran?ois returned to head winemaking. The wine was not made in 1984, and 1985 was a famously risky vintage as well. A deep winter freeze killed many of Tuscany's prized olive groves; however, those temperatures caused reduced yields in vineyards and hence higher quality in terms of tannins and polyphenols as a result. Albeit quite aged and faded today, the bouquet stirs up interesting aromas of hazelnut Nutella, sweet fruit, earth and rusty iron.
