Satta’s 2005 Il Cavaliere is an unqualified success in this vintage. Dark wild cherries, herbs, tobacco and underbrush are some of the nuances that emerge from this rich, weighty Sangiovese. In 2005 the Cavaliere shows wonderful depth and persistence on the palate that only a few wines were able to achieve, all while preserving the warmth and expansiveness typical of the wines of Bolgheri. Even better, the Cavaliere should come around sooner than some of Satta’s other wines. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
