The highly impressive 1998 Montrachet has a nose composed of white fruits, toasted oak, and minerals. Medium-bodied, muscular, and thick, this is a dense, spicy wine, filled with ripe apples, red berries, and anise. Extremely well-balanced and harmonious, it has an extraordinarily long finish that reveals loads of warm (alcoholic) fruit that should integrate as the elevage progresses. Projected maturity: 2002-2010.
