Cordero’s 2001 Barolo Vigna Enrico VI is the darkest of the wines. It opens with a complex, balsamic nose of spices, licorice and menthol followed by gorgeous flavors of dark, stewed fruits and spices with superb persistence on the palate, finishing with elegant tannins. Although this is the most compelling of the three Barolos, I can’t help thinking that the famous and historic Villero vineyard has so much more to say. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019.
