The 2003 Barolo Prapo is sweeter and riper than the Cerretta, but also slightly more advanced in its aromas and flavors. It is a soft-textured Barolo packed with dark fruit, menthol and licorice notes that flow from the glass. Although it offers notable concentration, its balance is ultimately dominated by the hard tannins that are typical of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. This small, family-run estate in Serralunga continues to demonstrate promise under the direction of proprietor Sergio Germano. These 2003 Barolos are both solid efforts. Slightly advanced color. Incredibly floral on the nose, with loads of fruit too. Full-bodied, with soft and velvety tannins and a toasted oak, coffee and berry aftertaste. Focused and well made.
