The 2007 Barolo Parej emerges from the glass with spices, freshly cut flowers, licorice and sweet red cherries. It is a relatively mid-weight wine for the year, but the bright red fruit nevertheless shows considerable depth. Sweet floral notes wrap around the finish. The Parej is a supple, fruit-driven Barolo but I find myself drawn in by the wine's exuberant, sexy personality. Silky tannins frame the long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. Laced with plum, mint, tobacco and vanilla flavors, with a hint of chocolate, this generous, fruit-driven Barolo is open and inviting. The tannins circle the fruit on the finish, playing out with a long, spice-tinged aftertaste.
