The 1997 Barranc dels Closos is a blend of 75% Garnacha, 23% Carinena, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that has been aged 3 months in oak casks. A medium to dark ruby-colored, soft, fruity, round wine that tastes as if it were made via the carbonic maceration method (as in Beaujolais), it will provide ideal drinking over the next 6-18 months. While there is not much complexity or depth, it is a fruity, one-dimensional yet pleasing and cleanly made effort.
A relatively new operation, Mas Igneus is the collaboration of several wineries. This effort from the Priorato appellation is good rather than inspiring.
