Made with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot in equal measure, the 2011 Bolgheri Piastraia is a dark, brooding wine with ample muscle and brawn. Each variety is vinified separately before final blending occurs. This is one of the boldest wines of the vintage that shows deep veins of spice, moist tobacco and sticky blackberry preserves with lighter touches of roasted espresso bean and carob seed. The wine’s inner elegance comes through in the palate where the wine builds in delicate intensity thanks to dusty mineral endnotes and finely polished tannins.
