The riveting 1997 Piastraia is a blend of equal parts Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak for 14 months. It possesses a thick, dark ruby color, in addition to an explosive nose of red and black fruits, pepper, vanillin, and smoke. Full-bodied and opulent, with lots of concentration and flavor dimensions. This is a wine of fabulous fruit intensity, complexity, and overall symmetry. It should drink well for 10-12 years. Bravo!
