The 2008 Barolo Bricco Gattera is richer, deeper and more powerful than the Monfalletto, but it isn't appreciably more complex or interesting. If anything, the oak appears to be a little more prominent than the wine's structure can support. Layers of dark red fruit, licorice and spices flow through to the dense, enveloping finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. This is a beautiful set of 2008 Baroli from Cordero di Montezemolo, one of the historic families in La Morra.
