The 2007 Barolo Bricco Gattera shows good up-front richness in a surprisingly approachable style. Gattera is a relatively warm site, and in 2007 the vintage yielded a more fruit-driven Barolo than in 2006. The aromatics seem a bit muted at first, but then the wine opens up beautifully in the glass, showing wonderful radiance and purity. Dark red berries, cinnamon, spices and French oak are some of the nuances that linger on the round, polished finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2027.
Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the few estates where the 2006s are more interesting than the 2007s, with the exception of the entry-level Barolo Monfalleto.
