The 2007 Orvieto Classico Superiore Campo del Guardiano is a rich, generous white. Because it has been in bottle for a few years, some of the freshness has naturally receded, while the fruit has begun its journey to slightly more rich, honeyed notes that will blossom fully in a few coming years. Today, the Campo del Guardiano is in an in-between stage, which makes it difficult to appreciate fully, but in another few years it should be beautiful. The inner sweetness and minerality play off each other nicely, and I see the Campo del Guardiano pairing beautifully even with slightly spicy dishes. It is a terrific effort from Palazzone and proprietor Giovanni Dubini. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.
