This wine is rich and intense, pure and clean, and shows no evidence of rot or hail damage. The color is dark, the bouquet explosive, and the length and balance truly superb. The wine is bigger and much more full bodied than most 1983s, with a powerful alcoholic clout. Expect this wine to be at its best between 1992-2000.
Since 1978, Robert Chevillon has unquestionably established his domaine as one of the very finest in the Cote d'Or. If one were to judge the entire 1983 vintage on the basis of his wines, then all the hoopla and hype would have been justified. His 1983s are excellent, and among the very finest and best-balanced wines of this notoriously overrated vintage.
