The 2017 Gigondas Romane Machotte is full-bodied and tannic, yet it still manages to turn silky on the finish. It starts off floral and peppery, then adds ample black cherry fruit on the palate. An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, it's a solid effort.

Mulled raspberry, damson plum and black cherry fruit flavors are stitched with garrigue, savory and anise notes. A tarry backdrop on the finish pulls everything together.
