One of my favorite of the three tasted (and the least expensive), the 2005 Gigondas Romane Machotte checks in as a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah that spent 12 months in 50% larger casks and 50% older barrels. It offers a classic, elegant and medium-bodied style to go with lots of sweet fruit, toasted spice, dried earth and hints of earth on the nose. Fully mature, yet a joy to drink, it should be consumed over the coming couple of years.
