Open knit and fully mature, with lots of cedary spice, red fruits and dried flowers, the 2007 Gigondas Romane Machotte is medium-bodied and sweetly fruited, with a dry edge to its tannin. It's best drunk up ASAP.

This has a solid graphite and espresso frame, with a core of black Mission fig and macerated currant fruit waiting in reserve. There's good grip through the lengthy finish, with lingering toast and tar hints.
