The 2008 Barolo Bricco Luciani is a touch darker and more energetic than the Giachini. It possesses gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and fabulous overall balance. The 2008 needs time, but this little spoken-of Barolo has a track record of developing gracefully, even in the smallest of vintages. Licorice, new leather and spices wrap around the firm, muscular finish. This is a terrific showing from Grasso. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.
The Grasso Baroli have always been delicious, but over the last 2-3 vintages quality seems to have taken a major jump up, which is great news for lovers of these wines.
