The 2007 Barolo Bricco Luciani is one of the most beautiful wines I have tasted here in quite some time. Dark berries, flowers, minerals and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this sexy, well-delineated Barolo. The 2007 possesses more depth than has been the norm over the recent past and also less new oak, a combination that has yielded a fabulous result. The wine’s inner perfume carries through gracefully to the long, silky finish. This is a hugely enjoyable Barolo from Grasso. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. As is typically the case, Grasso bottled his 2007s later than most of his colleagues, which meant I was only able to sample two Baroli from bottle. The black cherry, licorice, tar and tobacco flavors are vivid and bright in this red. Full of sweet fruit, oak spice and mouthcoating tannins, this finds a good equilibrium on the lingering, spicy finish.
