I was astonished by the quality of the 1989, and I am delighted to report that this unfined, unfiltered blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah, aged in new oak casks is again stunning in both 1990 and 1991. The poor man's Domaine Trevallon, it is a wine with a huge, smoky, roasted herb, and cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, super-rich, long, spicy, supple flavors, and explosive fruit and glycerin. There is plenty of heady alcohol and fruit in the finish. The 1991 is less evolved than the complex, rich 1990. Both wines possess saturated purple/black colors. It is hard to know how long wines such as these will age, but given the anti-oxidative qualities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, as well as the huge fruit and concentration these wines possess, 5-6 years is a conservative estimate.
