The superb 2001 Coma D’Enpou is a blend of equal parts Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with dollops of Syrah and Merlot, aged 16 months in primarily new French oak. It is not an internationally-styled red, but rather, a polished, concentrated, beautifully perfumed, serious effort revealing notes of Provencal herbs intermixed with licorice, black currants, spice box, truffles, and flowers. An interesting wine with wonderful texture, sweet tannin, and subtle notions of wood, consumption over the next 5-6 years is recommended, although it may last longer.
