The 2004 Barolo Genestra possesses greater depth and richness in its dark fruit. Sweet, balsamic notes develop in the glass, along with layers of spiciness that add complexity. This beautiful, vibrant Barolo offers superb balance and poise in a style that marries modern and traditional style with uncommon grace. The French oak is used beautifully here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
I have been a big fan of proprietor Giorgio Conterno’s wines for some time. Over the years these have become increasingly elegant Barolos, particularly in their refined tannins, much of which can be attributed to a more enlightened use of French oak.
At press time Conterno was in the process of changing his US importer.
