A fine effort from this Monforte d'Alba producer, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 Barolo Ginestra exhibits aromas and flavors of soy, balsam wood, dried cherries, tobacco, and herbs. Subtle notions of new oak in the aromatics suggest at least a portion of this cuvee saw some barrique treatment. Deep, full-bodied, and opulent, with sweet tannin, it should drink well young (atypical for this producer and region). Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
