The 2003 Barolo Ginestra is darker and fresher than the normale. This pure, elegant wine reveals terrific depth as well as detail in its sweet dark fruit, baking spices, licorice, menthol and oak nuances, with superb length and plenty of style. Anticipated maturity: 2008 – 2015.
Paolo Conterno is an excellent source for sleek, stylish Barolos from the Ginestra vineyard in Monforte. Ginestra may not have the prestige of some of the better known vineyards in the zone, but I find it consistently yields Barolos of uncommon structure, power and balance.
At press time Conterno was in the process of changing importers.
