Conterno’s 2001 Barolo Ginestra is big, dark and powerful, especially on the palate. The aromatics aren’t quite as clean or well defined as they could be, but there is no denying the 2001 has held up quite well over the last decade. Bright red berries, flowers and spices take shape in the glass as the wine turns increasingly delicate on the finish. Overall, this is a strong showing from proprietor Giorgio Conterno. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.
