The 2008 Barolo Liste shows the more muscular, sinewy side of Barolo from the town of Barolo. The 2008 is a big, imposing wine, but I am not sure it has enough fruit to stand up to the considerable French oak. Dark cherries, plums, licorice and new leather flow through to the authoritative, virile finish. If the Liste fleshes out it will merit a higher score, but today the wine is very compact. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. These 2008s from Damilano required considerable aeration to show the full breadth of their potential. At times, the wines still seem excessively oaked. Leads off with sandalwood, cedar and graphite aromas, followed by cherry, licorice, leather and mineral flavors. Intense and rich, remaining elegant and firmly structured.
