Damilano’s 2005 Barolo Liste is a powerful, brooding wine packed with black fruit, menthol, new leather and licorice. The tannins build mightily on the finish, suggesting further bottle age is essential. The Liste is aged in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021. This is a very nice set of Barolos from Damilano that show a move towards a higher and more consistent level of quality than has been the case in the past, good news especially since Damilano controls more than half of the Cannubi vineyard, traditionally considered one of Barolo’s top sites. The Liste cru has held up well to the warm 2005 vintage and exhibits rich notes of espresso, chocolate fudge, oak spice and vanilla.
