A truly great Chardonnay, this 2005 reminds me of a fabulous Corton-Charlemagne from Coche-Dury. It reveals a greenish tint to its light straw color as well as a layered, honeyed nose dominated by scents of orange blossoms, white currants, lemon curd, green apple skins and a hint of hazelnuts. The oak influence is extremely subtle, and the wine possesses fabulous intensity and vibrant acidity, delineation and brightness. It is the first vintage to display a striking minerality, which probably has something to do with its evolution and the fact that it is now six years old. This was another large harvest with higher yields than normal for this estate, yet the 2005 is one of the most concentrated and beautiful wines of the entire portfolio. It should provide immense pleasure for another 10-15+ years.
