The 2008 Barolo Bricco Manzoni is a rich, textured wine. Dark plums, cherries, flowers and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from the glass. The Bricco Manzoni is the flashiest of these Baroli and always has a bit more new oak (70% here), but the oak is also better balanced than in some previous years. Still, next to the other Baroli, the high percentage of French oak barrels feels as though it is suffocating the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.
The Grasso Baroli have always been delicious, but over the last 2-3 vintages quality seems to have taken a major jump up, which is great news for lovers of these wines.
