The red 2014 Abellars is a blend of Garnacha, Cari?ena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from their Finca Mas de l’Abella estate property in the village of La Morera de Montsant. It's a clean and modern red fermented with selected yeasts and matured in oak barrels for one year. It has a commercial profile, good ripeness, generous oak and a medium-bodied palate. 2,666 bottles produced.

The heady and spirity 2012 Abellars is sourced from the Finca Mas de l’Abella estate property in the village of La Morera de Montsant. It's a blend of Garnacha, Cari?ena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from 12-year-old vineyards fermented with selected yeasts and matured in oak barrels for one year. The nose is all about macerated cherries and hints of liqueur with dark chocolate, roasted coffee and earth. The palate is powerful, with flavors that made me think of a dry Port. Very good in its style. There are 2,700 bottles produced.

The 2011 Abellars is sourced from the Finca Mas de l’Abella estate in the high altitude village of La Morera de Montsant. It is a blend of Garnacha, Cari?ena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from youngish vineyards and that has a one year élevage. Similar to the one wine they produce in Montsant, this is a big and ripe red with plenty of oak-related aromas, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla wrapped around a core of very ripe damsons and prunes. The palate is full-bodied, with some dusty tannins and a powerful, slightly warm finish. It needs a winter stew. 6,000 bottles produced.

The 2010 Abellars-Finca Mas de l’Abella is a blend of Garnacha, Carinena with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah planted on slate soils in the Mas de l’Abella vineyard in La Morera de Montsant. It has some elegance and balance between Mediterranean and northern Rhone character, with notes of blueberries, crushed flowers, minerals, raspberry leaf and smoked bacon with a round, fleshy palate and good acidity showing balance and elegance. The 2009 Abellars is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 25% Carinena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah from 13-year-old vines, aged in French and American oak (50% each being new). It has a well-defined, attractive nose of blackberry, pain grille and liquorice with a slight reductive note that works to its favour. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly toasted entry, grainy tannins and fine delineation towards the structured, composed, off-dry finish. This is well-made and should age well. Drink now-2018.
