This is the least successful de Pez in the trio of fine claret vintages--1981, 1982, and 1983. A medium-weight wine, the 1981 is austere and unyielding, but has good fruit and a firm, tannic, lean structure. This wine has remained tight and unevolved, but I fear the fruit is beginning to dry out. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 6/87.
