While not as animalistic as some of its predecessors, this 2003 Cote Rotie is extremely high in acidity (atypical for the vintage). This dark ruby-tinged effort exhibits aromas and flavors of damp earth, raspberries, cherries, smoke, and tapenade. The tart acids hit the palate with a shrillness that remains through the finish. It’s hard to predict where this wine is headed.
