Burgaud produces black-colored, dense, occasionally rustic, super-concentrated wines that are bottled unfined and unfiltered. They possess considerable character, as well as aging potential. The 1990 Cote Rotie is showing better out of bottle than it did from barrel. It exhibits Burgaud's tell-tale opaque dark ruby color, as well as an herbal, earthy, oaky nose intertwined with aromas of black-cherries and black-raspberries. In the mouth, it is one of the more concentrated 1990 Cote Roties, with a thickness and richness that is surprising for the vintage. The long, tannic finish is impressive. Do not be surprised if this wine merits an outstanding rating in 4-5 years. Anticipated maturity: 1996-2010. Importers: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA and a Christopher Cannan Selection, Europvin - various importers.
