Atypical for the vintage, the 1995 Brunello di Montalcino reveals austerity as well as a backward, moderately tannic character. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of new saddle leather, smoke, earth, incense, and red fruits. On the palate, the wine is pure and of high quality, but closed, compressed, and monolithic. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 7-10 years.
