The 2011 Merlot reveals a wonderful smoky espresso-scented nose with a hint of black cherry liqueur. Medium-bodied and moderately colored, it is not terribly rich or profoundly deep, but it is lush, velvety and endearing. I suspect most wine consumers may prefer this Merlot to some of the more highly rated and concentrated vintages that require a few years of bottle age. This can be enjoyed in its first 3-4 years of life.
Micheal Keenan has done an incredible job at this Spring Mountain winery over the last 10-15 years, producing one of the finest Cabernet Francs in all of northern California as well as hitting all cylinders with his other Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as his sumptuous blend called Mernet.
