The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape is 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and the rest a bit of Cinsault and Clairette. Aged in a mix of old and new barrels, steel tanks and foudres, it offers hints of balsam-like spice and ripe cherries. It's full-bodied and concentrated but a bit astringent and overly tannic on the finish. Give it a couple of years to settle down before enjoying it over the next decade.
