The dark plum/garnet 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits aromas of damp earth, roasted herbs, grilled meats, and abundant black cherries and figs. It is a well-made, medium to full-bodied, tasty, evolved offering to consume over the next 5-8 years. Roger Perrin has turned out some beautiful wines, especially his top cuvee of Vieilles Vignes, which is exceptionally strong in both vintages. However, his wines are always fairly priced, so readers should not ignore his basic cuvee.Importer: T. Edward Wines, New York, NY; tel. (212) 233-1504
