The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino reveals an open, expressive bouquet laced with sweet menthol, red cherries and spices, all of which come together nicely on a rich, round palate. The wine shows lovely depth in its perfumed red fruit, with a long, persistent finish and no hard edges. It is delicious today and also appears to have the stuffing to develop nicely in bottle. This impeccably elegant, polished Brunello is a terrific effort from Casanuova delle Cerbaie. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
