The special cuvee of 2003 St.-Joseph La Sensonne (this wine was not produced in 2004) is a 350-case cuvee aged in 100% new oak. One of the finest St.-Josephs I have ever tasted, it ranks alongside the single vineyard Les Granits from Chapoutier as well as Guigal’s finest cuvees. This vineyard, which is planted in pure granite, has produced an extraordinarily rich wine revealing an inky/blue/purple color as well as a sweet nose of black truffles, melted licorice, acacia flowers, blackberries, and creme de cassis. With moderate tannin, a rich, full, super-ripe personality, and surprising delineation, it should hit its peak in 3-4 years, and last for two decades.
