In the same style as the classic cuvée, yet with more garrigue, exotic spice and pepper, the 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée du Baron has lots of Syrah in the blend (more than normal, no doubt due to the horrible shatter that occurred with the Grenache) and checks in as a blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. Aged 18 months in old foudre, it doesn’t have the depth of a top vintage, but it does have plenty of charm in its medium-bodied, polished and Proven?al style. I suspect it will drink nicely on release and hold for a decade.
