Wineries don't get much more historic than this one: Fortia once belonged to Baron Le Roy, who laid the foundation of the AOC system. The domaine lies on the edge of the village of Chateaunsuf and is certainly one of the oldest in the epony?mous appellation. The mix of vine varieties is entirely classical. Roussanne may be by far the most dominant white varietal, but grenache makes up for it among the reds with support from syrah (24 percent) and minor plantings of the rnourvedre and cou?noise. The wines show real class with age, particularly the cuvee du Baron.
