The 2012 El Paraguas Atlantico is a blend of 85% Treixadura, 10% Godello and the rest Albarino. The Godello is aged in barrel for three months. 2012 was extremely warm, and even more so in the lower part of the Avia valley, but their low yields (5,500 kilos per hectare) from the old vines is a kind of self-regulation against drought and heat .The wine has a bright yellow color with an intense nose, very aromatic, full of white flowers, a touch creamy with some citric and mineral notes. Clean and complex, the medium-bodied palate shows great acidity and concentration, very intense, with a long aftertaste, supple, ending mineral/saline. 5,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2014-2018.
El Paraguas (literally “the umbrella”) is a very young operation, since their first vintage was only 2011. It’s the joint effort of Felicisimo Pereira and Marcial Pita, previously linked to a very original wine called El Lince in Castilla-Leon. Their philosophy is to create a single wine from the fruit of their 1.1 hectare of vineyards averaging 60 years old in the Avia valley, even though they are also experimenting with red Ferrol (Ferron). They produce 5,000 to 6,000 bottles per year.
