Chateau Ste. Michelle's attractively packaged single-vineyard Chardonnays as well as their Chateau Reserve are fine, interesting, admirably different wines. However, they do not offer a very good price/quality rapport. The 1993 Chardonnay Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard reveals a high class, complex, citrusy, tropical fruit, subtlely oaked nose that by itself merits a score in the upper eighties. In the mouth, the wine becomes more narrow because of its high acidity. There is good freshness, excellent purity, and a Chassagne-Montrachet-like complexity to this wine. Given its balance and crisp, tart acidity, it should age well for 2-3 years. Tel. (206) 488-1133
