The 2011s here, while a step back from the 2012s (and the incredible 2010), are rock-solid in the vintage. The 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape (same blend/elevage as the 2012) offers up perfumed, forward notes of spice, cedar, roast beef and assorted meatiness to go with a deep, black fruit core. Medium-bodied, nicely textured and supple, with a hint of the savory tannin in the vintage, it should be consumed over the coming 6-7 years. Drink now-2020.
This high-quality estate is run by Coralie Goumarre and covers roughly 120 acres in Cotes du Rhones and a tiny 4 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape. Located mostly in the northeastern part of the appellation, she produces two red Chateauneufs and one white. In addition to the 2011s and 2012 reviewed here (which are well worth seeking out), don’t miss her 2010s!
